CamundaCon 2026: The Future of Process Automation Is Getting Smarter
With around 1,000 attendees from the international Camunda community, CamundaCon 2026 in Amsterdam offered numerous insights into the future of process automation. As a Camunda Gold Partner, best-blu was also on site to discuss current developments, challenges, and trends.
A central theme of the event was the increasing convergence of process orchestration and artificial intelligence. It became clear that AI will play an increasingly significant role in the automation of business processes in the future. This involves not only supporting individual tasks but also the intelligent control and optimization of complete end-to-end processes.
Another important trend is the shift of focus back to the actual process. While AI will be able to take over many technical tasks in the future—such as creating simple connectors or assisting with testing—process design, domain expertise, and the continuous optimization of workflows will continue to gain importance.
The discussion surrounding new roles, such as the “AI Automation Business Engineer,” was also fascinating. In the future, there will be a growing demand for experts who combine process expertise with a deep understanding of AI-driven automation, thereby bridging the gap between business units and technology.
In addition, ProcessOS was introduced as an approach that views processes as a company’s central operating system. The idea behind it: people, systems, data, and AI are connected via a common orchestration layer to control business processes efficiently and flexibly.
Our conclusion: The future of process automation lies in the intelligent combination of process orchestration, AI, and domain expertise. Companies should start laying the groundwork today to actively shape this development.
